About two years ago, my mother was given three years to live due to a terminal lung disease. I moved her here, where she would live stress-free in a home I bought for her. During that time, my normally active mother wanted to feel useful, but she was not well enough to take a real job. I decided to create one for her: something simple that didn’t even need to make money. I started WildmanT.com, an online underwear company. All my mom had to do was keep an account balance, send out the new orders and e-mail customers. The company took off and my mom stopped dying. She had an unexplained lung regeneration (she was on alternative medicine) and her health is almost back to normal. Her resilience has unexpectedly created a company that we both love and plan to keep expanding for a really long time. She’s amazing.

“I am so proud of my son—he changed his whole life to help me, as did all my boys. I am very lucky,” says Pauline. “My relationship with Tim has always been a special one, from the first time I held him. He was the perfect son, and he has grown into a wonderful man.” Tim says that his mom is one of his closest friends and that she brings a vital quality to their business. “Her fight,” he says proudly. “She fought to stay active, she fought to live and she fights for our company’s success.”
So what did Pauline do when her health miraculously improved?
“I praised God! My health is not perfect yet, but I am able to plan for a tomorrow,” she says. “I am able to still make a difference. I want to see Tim’s company get as big as it can before I finally do go, so I can feel like I helped leave something behind.”

Although she jokes that she’s secretly planning an escape to Florida (Tim says, “She’ll be a part of this company and my life until the end, so don’t get any ideas, lady!”), Pauline marvels at how much Tim’s taught her.
“Until this all happened, I never turned on a computer. Now I am filling orders, keeping books and updating the site,” she says. “I am proud of what I can do, and I am proud to work with my son.”
