Adam Carolla seems to think that making jokes about LGBT people are fair game because being "nice doesn't get laughs." Video and details follow.
After Sara Gilbert, an openly gay co-host of the CBS daytime talk show The Talk, asked about his anti-gay material, Adam replied:
“If somebody says to me, ‘What do you think of your mother-in-law,’ and I go, ‘Oh, she’s a delight, I love her dearly,’ nobody laughs. So if they say, ‘What do you think of Chaz Bono,’ I have to say something that’s horrible, so I can get a laugh. And everyone goes, 'oh, that's what you think?' Nice doesn’t get laughs, especially on stage...When did we start holding comedians up to the level of politicians and teachers? We're supposed to say these things...we make no policies. I don't control anything. I just tell jokes."
As a gay man, I totally understand where he is coming from, but I'm not ultra sensitive as are so so so many in our community. Comedy is about being funny, interesting, and provocative which describes Adam perfectly. People make a giant deal out Adam making a few jokes about homosexuals or women, and forget that he is a comedian. For whatever reason we are holding them up to the standards of politicians these days, and its absurd. Adam Carolla is not a homophobe or a woman hater, hes a comedian, and a good one at that.

When was he a comedian? He always hides behind the "I'm a comedian" whether he's telling a joke or telling his actual opinion. He doesn't like gay people. He thinks we are weird, pathetic and deserve what we get.
