Following the lead of California's ban on "ex gay therapy," Rep. Jackie Speiers (San Francisco/San Mateo) will introduce the Stop Harming Our Kids resolution into the U.S. House early Wednesday. Details follow.

According to Rep. Speier's office:

In response to tragic examples of the harmful psychological abuse inflicted on young people through dangerous sexual orientation conversion practices, also known as reparative therapy to convert or “repair” an individual’s sexual orientation, Congresswoman Jackie Speier (D-San Francisco/San Mateo) will introduce the Stop Harming Our Kids (SHOK) resolution on Wednesday, November 28. At a 10:00 a.m. press conference, she will discuss the resolution and her efforts to investigate whether taxpayer funds have been used to reimburse therapists for this discredited and ineffective practice through the federal Medicaid or TRICARE healthcare programs. Congresswoman Speier will be joined at the press conference by advocacy leaders and survivors of psychological abuse from sexual orientation change practices. Sheldon Bruck, a plaintiff in a new lawsuit against a New Jersey organization for offering fraudulent conversion therapy services, will share his story.

Bravo!

(H/t: Joe)

It's about time we started to put Sensing-Judgers (Myers-Briggs personality types) back into their place. These personality types have forced their religiosity on us for long enough. They controlled society throughout the Dark Ages, leading to Jewish babies being roasted each time the Plague swept through, people burned at the stake, others tortured and killed in other psychopathic ways. We need a society that is moral; based on individualism rather than forcing everyone to think and act like these delusional religious ideologues.

I hope that Average Joe is NOT correct. Maybe it's just some weird psychological experiment. But under NO circumstances should it be administered WITHOUT consent or WITHOUT a comprehensive list of possible psychological "side " effects. I consider it a form of torture....But if a individual WANTS this type of therapy ...I don't know if there should be a law against it. People should be encouraged to be who they are, however if someone feels this is right to THEM , that is their right. Please don't misunderstand me......I truly believe it to be wrong....But I cannot speak for everyone. However parents making this decision for their children frightens me.This is where "personhood" needs to be addressed. No child should be subject to this without a REAL understanding and maturity about their decision. And I believe legally after the age of 21 would be best. Although on a bitter receiving end if this "so called therapy " myself , I realize some people would at leas try to be what society deems as "normal".
