One Tennessee transgender woman made a huge statement at a local DMV (that considers her a man) by going topless and was arrested for it. Read more about the wonderfully bold Andrea Jones after the jump.
WATE.com reports that Andrea Jones was arrested for indecent exposure after taking her top off after the Morristown Driver's License Office refused to change her sex from male to female on her driver's license.
Andrea, who has had partial sex changed explains: "If I was a male, I had the right to, when I stepped out the door, take off my shirt. It's not right for the state to ask me to be both male and female. A choice needs to be made. They cannot hold me to both standards." Hell yes!
The police report referred to Jones as a man.
What a brilliant, albeit radical, way to protest a clear inconsistency in the way transgender people are treated! Hmm, I bet there are many other ways the LGBT community can fight for equality in the same vein. Suggestions?
