In the Spring 2012 semester, students at Baylor University in the conservative town of Waco, Texas will be able to take a new sociology course titled "Homosexuality as Gateway Drug." What exactly does this mean?

Details on the upcoming course are sparse, but at first consideration it sure sounds like a way to brainwash kids with symposiums on the tired "slippery slope" arguments and linking gays to drug addicts (judging from the horrifically offensive class title).

What do you think will be included in Baylor's "Homosexuality as Gateway Drug" curriculum? Should Baylor consider cancelling the course?

This situation was taken far out of context. Someone saw this class (an independent study class that ONE student decided to investigate) and without asking any questions or seeking clarification, posted an image online and now Baylor has to deal with the backlash from an LGBT Mob. How is it possible that people who preach about open discussions of these topics not only are not open to discuss them, but aren't even informed about them.

The student taking this class was seeking to discover if there was any validity to the notion much held by conservative members of society as to whether or not acceptance of homosexuality opens up members in society to be more accepting of things further outside the traditional spectrum of sexual relations. In which case homosexuality would be a "gateway drug" in this instance. For shame to everyone who will get outraged over this without trying to understand the workings underneath.

What makes you any better than someone who judges a gay man by his exterior and rushes to a predetermined conclusion?

"No lie can live forever " Thank you Hope. Great to see a comment to a story that has more accurate information than the story itself. We live in a world of lazy twitter journalists who want to put in only enough effort to support their agenda, not to get to the truth.

I'm GLAD Baylor will have to deal with some backlash-- serves them right for trying to be so cute with the name of the course. Maybe in the future they'll use a little more common sense, and common courtesy.

Actually, I am Baylor student and looked at the schedule...This IS NOT a real course. That class is Family Studies. Reporters should do their homework before trying to ruin a school's reputation. I am pro-LGBT but I am also pro-accuracy!
