It's being reported that more than 30,000 supporters turned out for the 8th Pride parade yesterday in Taipei City. Participants marched in front of the presidential office waving signs in support of the community. The theme for this year's march was "Out and Vote.”

Gay rights advocacy group Taiwan LGBT Pride Community said the theme of this year’s parade was selected in the hopes of raising gay rights awareness ahead of the upcoming special municipality elections, and to urge the government to implement concrete measures to protect the rights and interests of this minority group. There has been no corresponding progress in gay and lesbian rights legislation during the eight years the parade has been happening in Taiwan.

Organizers say this weekend's turnout, however, was the best yet. The parade has grown in size from 500 participants in 2002 to become the largest event of its kind in Asia.

And speaking of Pride, you may remember we introduced you to the wonderful Walk With Pride photo project earlier this summer. Well, its creators, Charles and Sarah, have compiled the best of their travels and created a 2011 Pride calendar, featuring the beautiful images they have captured from Pride celebrations across the globe during the past year.
