Via a White House statement, President Obama has come out in opposition to the Boy Scouts of America's long-standing and discriminatory ban on LGBT troops and leaders. Details follow.

“The President believes the Boy Scouts is a valuable organization that has helped educate and build character in American boys for more than a century,” White House spokesperson Shin Inouye said in a statement given to the Washington Blade. “He also opposes discrimination in all forms, and as such opposes this policy that discriminates on basis of sexual orientation.”

On Monday Mitt Romney reiterated his age-old opposition to the ban.

What more will it take for the BSA to change policy?

The Republican candidate stands by the outdated and discriminatory rule? So unlike him...

You do realize that Obama, while I'll take what I can get, is supporting us gay folks so much now because this issue and almost any other will take the publics mind off of the economy. Social issues will help him more than running on his record. That's why Romney is staying away from this stuff too.

"MitchellWiggs" - you may want to read that statement again... I actually says he's against the rule. I was actually surprised and had to follow the link to make sure it wasnt a typo!

Why not just form a new group, such as Gay Scouts? I would think gays would feel more comfortable and accepted knowing that others in their troop were also gay. Tolerance should not be an one-way street. I learned many years ago, if someone doesn't want to play with me, I simply found new friends. Why insist that others be your friend?
