As if West Hollywood or Castro residents needed any more, um, colors in their wardobe to show off their gay-gay-gay. But, this proposed bill won't just beneift the Wehoers and San Fransicans—all other Californians could soon be displaying their pride on their Prii and VWs, too. Deets after the jump.
If California assemblywoman Mary Hayashi's bill (introduced on Friday) passes, California would be the fourth state to have a license plate supporting LGBT equality. While California currently has 13 other "specialty" plates, this would be the first LGBT specific license plate for the state.
South Carolina, Indiana and Maryland already offer the plates in their states. We can't have another embrassment on our hands here, like the Prop 8 debacle. Surely if South Carolina can have an LGBT license plate, California can…right?
C'mon, California, let's make this happen!
Funds from the sale of the plate will go toward anti-bullying programs at the California Department of Education.
