The CIMA Awards (jokingly referred to as the Catholic Oscars or the Catholic Emmy Awards) handed out a surprising trophy this week.
The Catholics in Media Associates is used to receiving criticism from heirarchs in the faith for some of its more controversial selections, but nothing compares to the truckload of letters pissed-off Catholics addressed to CIMA this year for honoring uber-gay Modern Family as the best TV show.
But despite the flak, CIMA president Haskell Vaughn Anderson III told Catholic News Service that the purpose of the organization was not to criticize what we don't like, but to praise what we do." Anderson went on to say that the organization was formed to "counter the image of Catholics as people who criticize what they don't like."
