Congratulations are in order!!
House Representative Barney Frank (4th District, Massachusetts) became the first gay member of Congress to marry a same-sex partner on Saturday! He married his new husband, Jim Ready, at the Boston Marriott hotel in Newton, Massachusetts.
Barney and Jim have been a couple since 2005.
More after the jump!
According to The Bilerico Project, "Ready, age 42, lives in Ogunquit, Maine and runs a small business that does custom awnings, carpentry, painting, welding and other services; he is also a photographer. Ready grew up in Tewksbury, Massachusetts. Frank, 72, has represented the Fourth District of Massachusetts in the United States Congress since 1981, and he previously served in the Massachusetts House for eight years."
More than 300 friends and family members attended the ceremony, including House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.
Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick wrote and conducted the ceremony, which apparently included several snappy one-liners--naturally.
In their vows the couple pledged to love each other "on MSNBC or on Fox" and "in Congress or in retirement."
Loves it!
You can read a breakdown and text of the ceremony, here.
Congrats Barney and Jim!
