A federal law requires that any school receiving federal funds must allow equal extracurricular opportunities for all students, so a sneaky Corpus Christi, Texas school district has devised a way to continue receiving government money while exhibiting blatant homophobia. Instead of approving Four Bluff High School student Bianca "Nikki" Peet's (pictured) Gay Straight Alliance, the district has decided to circumvent the federal law by canceling all extracurricular student clubs. Rather than just bully the gay kids and their friends, the school has managed to find a way to bully all of its students equally.
Paul Rodriguez, President of the Texas A&M Corpus Christi Gay Straight Alliance, released a statement yesterday:
"What a sad, sad day in Corpus Christi. Hatred and intolerance prevails in Flour Bluff ISD. Rather than allowing the Gay-Straight Alliance to form at FBHS, Administrators have chosen the alternative route of dis-allowing ALL non-curricular clubs to meet on campus. Not only has this district turned its back on the students who could benefit from a GSA, but now has alienated the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and other non-curricular clubs on campus as well."
Contact information for the school can be found here, if you're so inclined after reading this story....
