Power lesbian (it kinda works) Cynthia Nixon is leaving Miranda Hobbs behind (at least until they pull Carrie and friends from the early bird special at Balthazar for another Sex And The City film) and is trading in the couture for cancer. 

The Big C, to be exact. It was just announced that Cynthia will have a recurring role on Laura Linney's highly buzzed-about (including here) new Showtime series, The Big C. Cynthia will reportedly play the friend to cancer-stricken Laura in the dark-comedy series. 

Cynthia will join Gabby Sidibe as a recurring character on the show, set to premiere in August.
