Queerty is reporting that the Department of Health and Human Services has approved a grant of nearly $80 million to improve access to HIV/AIDS care.
More after the jump!
According to HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, this grant will ensure that low-income Americans will have access to medication and other treatments.
The Ryan White AIDS Drug Assistance Program is contributing approximately $69 million of the funds, which will assist in eliminating waiting lists in 25 states and U.S. territories.
The remaining funds will be distributed to community clinics nationwide to provide essential care to some 14,000 new patients.
Sebelius says, “The entire Administration is dedicated to fulfilling President Obama’s goal of an AIDS free generation and today’s announcement is one more step in that ongoing effort. These grants will help make a real difference in the lives of Americans living with HIV/AIDS, especially those in underserved communities.”
