In yet another example of "It's not how you get there, as long as you get there," former Vice President Dick Cheney has come out in support of same-sex marriage and is specifically using his voice to lobby on behalf of same-sex marriage in Maryland. The “Civil Marriage Protection Act” is being debated today on the House floor, in what promises to be a very close vote. It’s no secret that Cheney has an openly gay daughter and many contend that this first-hand experience with a homosexual child has shaped his views. The former Vice-President isn’t exactly known for his vehement defense of civil liberties, except in this case. Still, we’re not going to look a gift horse in the mouth. If Cheney wants to lend his support and influence to the cause, more power to him! He’s making his stance pretty clear: "I think that freedom means freedom for everyone. As many of you know, one of my daughters is gay and it is something we have lived with for a long time in our family. I think people ought to be free to enter into any kind of union they wish. Any kind of arrangement they wish.” Hopefully he can change the minds of some of the current Republican delegates that are holding out on this issue (we doubt he’s talking to the Dems), and perhaps his reach can extend to the national stage. We're looking at you, Santorum voters.
