Did Burlesque Pay for its Golden Globe nomination? PDF Print

Burlesque was a fun, campy romp worthy of seeing in the theatres. But one of 2010's best pictures? Hardly, which is why critics have lambasted the Golden Globes for nominating the Cher/Christina/Cam vehicle, revoking any remaining credibility the Hollywood Foreign Press might have held onto.

Not that it'll return credibility to the Globes, but Sony's free Sin City vacation for Hollywood Foreign Press to see Cher in concert at least might explain how Burlesque got on its glitzy Best Picture ticket...

Reports the L.A. Times' Patrick Goldstein:

"If you talk to the top award-season consultants, they can barely disguise their lack of respect for the HFPA members, who often put themselves in indelicate situations, as with this year's crew, which took a Sony-sponsored trip to Las Vegas to see Cher in concert, then gave her film a stunning best picture nod."

Then again, is there another musical from 2010 that is more deserving of the nod?

Ya, the Golden Globes were never credible and are always willing to sell nominations. Burlesque blows anyways, this shilling just proves that!! smilies/grin.gif
