Luke Evans, an actor who is seeing his Hollywood stock rising with turns in The Three Musketeers, Immortals, and The Hobbit, spoke candidly about being gay in his early career as a London theater star. But now, with Hollywood behind him, is the big-budget actor being forced to erase his open-book past?

In the early aughts Evans revealed in separate interviews that he was a gay man (in 2002) who owned a size-able gay porn collection (in 2004). But that was before Tinseltown took notice.

Now, following his transition to the big screen, Luke is suddenly dating women and not acknowledging his quotes from nearly a decade ago.

After Elton caught onto Hollywood's possible "conversion therapy" of the actor and sent an inquiry to Evans's publicist, who responded: "I do not comment on my client's personal lives in the media. As for Luke, he did so once, a long time ago when he was an inexperienced, young actor and now with maturity and hindsight, he has learned not to engage the press in his personal life again."

James Mason writes at Dot429:

A friend of mine, who also happens to be friends with Mr. Evans, told me that Luke wishes he could be out, but he has been forced back in the closet by the studio executives who essentially gave him an ultimatum: it's the closet or bust.

In the last few months there have not been any further comments from Evans or his team, nor has any of the mainstream media asked any questions during the publicity tours that Evans has been on for The Three Musketeers and Immortals.

All has been silent, except for a change to his Wikipedia page which now states that Evans "openly identified as gay" in his "early career" but he recently was "romantically linked with a woman." The fact that this duplicity has been able to go on without any real accountability or opposition baffles me.

Is the possible de-gaying of Luke Evans something mainstream media should be pursuing, or, is it none of our business? What do you think?

How can anyone know for sure if it was Hollywood who made him go in the closet or if it was his agent or whoever else?

Who says he is alone?
He may be doing the same as many other gays and living "privately"

He has looks, fame, and $$$. Many gays will be all over him. smilies/sad.gif

What will be more telling is him not going out of his way to quash the "rumors" concerning his past. He knows what's been asked of him is complete garbage, and he knows, sooner rather than later, the public will not abide by the ultimatum that's been thrust upon him by the shameful, closetmongering Hollywood elite. The best way to help him is to hit all his handlers where where they live, since this is obviously their doing: send an explicit message to them that we know the truth and we will boycott their exploitation of him until they rescind that goofy requirement concerning his sexuality.

It does not hurt me if he wants to keep his private life private. Gay people have so much more important things to worry about. DOMA, the North Carolina anti marriage amendment, the next presidential election. Why start heaping judgement on someone when we know next to nothing about their situation?

Private life should be kept private, yes. But, acting like this conversion therapy works, letting his agents, etc decide for him, and saying he's dating women & all that is disobeying to say the least. Disgusting if we want to go there. And this is coming from a guy who still needs to come out to ppl, but who chooses celibacy because he is christian and values his faith above all else. Still, I wouldn't date a woman, nor do I believe in or appreciate this "straightening therapy crap" that seems tb going on here. Luke Evans seems like a great guy, and were he to admit what he already has, he would have lots of public support as a gay action hero. This situation begs the question, though: was he lying before? Or just very curious for a few years? Sadly, in my recurrence, this happens with a few men. Some even snag up marrying women. I could never see myself doing something so ignoble, but ppl do. It's disappointing & infuriating. But it happens. Ugh...that makes ne happy that I can & need to choose celibacy.

Sex with whomever is supposed to be a private thing period. Even though our society is making it ever more on the front page instead of in the bedroom. I'm no prude but do we need it shoved in our face all the time? Not every celebrity who is gay has to be on a political bandwagon either. There are plenty already out there. Why does anyone care?? Were you planning on having sex with him soon??! He's a good looking man gay or not and I loved him in Immortals.

I don't see the need for articles like this to published. Seriously, how is it our business whether or not he is gay? How is it any of our business who he decides to have a sexual relationship with? In all honesty, it is such a shame that someone as talented and good looking as he, have to hide who is, in fear (or whatever the case maybe) that he may not be accepted in "hollywood" or the mainstream media. It's a shame. We should accept everyone for who they are. Who cares if we have a "gay" superhero. That is why we call the people who act in those movies "ACTORS". They are paid to play a character and at the end of the day, they return to who they really.

I am a fan of his and if he comes out of the closet (again)...I will adore, love, and continue to support him.
