Gotta love it when a money man comes out for a cause! Well, one of the behemoth social network's co-founders, Chris Hughes, was never really in the closet, but he's come out strong against anti-equality measures in his home state of of North Carolina. Read more about what he's doing after the jump.
Equality North Carolina sent out a letter late last night from NC native and Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes which outlinied his reasons for opposing an anti-LGBT constitutional amendment that would ban marriage, civil unions and domestic partner benefits for same-sex couples in his home state.
In addition to his letter, Hughes issued a $10,000 fundraising challenge to benefit Equality North Carolina. In the letter, Hughes wrote:
“Because there could not be a more critical time to support the work of Equality NC, my fiancé, Sean Eldridge, and I have pledged to donate $10 for each person who likes Equality NC’s page on Facebook—up to $10,000—to support the work of the organization between now and Tuesday. We hope that others will join us and contribute what they can of their time, energy, and resources to help defeat this anti-gay measure.”
Lawmakers will reconvene on Monday, and Hughes and Equality NC wanted to get a jump on things before sessions resume. Go like Equality North Carolina on Facebook and support the cause!
Thanks, Chris and Sean. You guys are solid.
