The National Log Cabin Republicans have officially condemned the ad published by Broward County, Florida Log Cabin Republicans that featured the body of slain U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens.

See their Letter to the Editor, sent to the Florida Agenda (the newspaper that published the ad) after the jump.

The Executive Director of the Log Cabin Republicans R. Clarke Cooper writes:

"Dear Editors,

The recent ad run in the Florida Agenda by the Broward Log Cabin Republicans does not represent the position of Log Cabin Republicans, and we reject it completely. The 9-11 attack on Americans posted in Libya was an act of terrorism.  To suggest that the Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb attack on the US consular mission in Benghazi was connected to homophobia is just as ridiculous as US Ambassador to the UN, Susan Rice, claiming the attack in Benghazi was prompted by a film critical of Mohammed.

Violence against the LGBT community is a challenge to civil society throughout the world, and America is a beacon for freedom for all minority voices. There are plenty of reasons to vote Republican to protect US interests and human rights abroad, but the obscene ad in this publication is fallacious, grossly inappropriate and irresponsible.

Further, on a personal level and as a former diplomat, seeing this ad makes me sick. I know Israel’s ambassador to the US, Michael Oren, who happens to be a pro-gay rights conservative, and I am deeply embarrassed to have to explain to him and strong pro-gay rights conservative ally, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, that a local chapter of Log Cabin Republicans ran such an offensive ad in an attempt to get voters to the polls and bolster the US bilateral relationship with Israel. Our organization’s mission is to build a stronger, more inclusive Republican Party, and this ad failed on all fronts.

Regards,
R. Clarke Cooper
Executive Director, Log Cabin Republicans"

Original Post

Log Cabin Republicans in Florida have come under fire after releasing a shockingly tasteless ad that puts the body of murdered U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens on display.

The ad hops on the rumors that Stevens was gay and shamelessly politicizes his death. Check it out after the jump.

The ad was purchased by the Broward County Log Cabin Republicans. The Stonewall Democrats released a statement in response, saying:

“The Log Cabin Republicans of Florida have cravenly disrespected the life and legacy of a United States civil servant with this ad. Put bluntly, they have crossed the line of civil discourse and good taste by including an image of the corpse of slain US Ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens being carried through the streets of Benghazi, Libya,” said Jerame Davis, National Stonewall Democrats Executive Director Jerame Davis.

“It is simply unimaginable to me how the muddy and ludicrous message of this ad in any way justifies disgracing the memory of a man who gave his life in service to his country. This level of depravity and moral indifference must not be allowed to enter our political discourse.”

How do you feel about the ad, Instincters?
