While Chaz Bono received some unexpected support from one Fox News commentator this week, the conservative network’s viewers spoke out (quite harshly) against the gay community in response to another news bit. Follow the jump to get the LGBT Fox roundup.
After commentator Dr. Keith Ablow now famously made discriminatory remarks earlier this week against Chaz Bono’s casting on Dancing With The Stars (ya know, that whole “children will develop gender confusion after watching him on national television” thing), one Fox News anchor unexpectedly came to Chaz’s defense.
Megyn Kelly went after Ablow’s remarks—on air—saying, “There is no scientific evidence to back that up and in fact…the experts in this field say Ablow is way off base.
“This group of people is persecuted already and now you have Dr. Ablow telling people that if your kid sees one in a manner that is something akin to a celebration, your kid may wind up being one of them. Now there are people in this country that will react to a transgender person when they see one at the McDonald’s or at some event and that’s irresponsible.”
Well, there has been plenty of "coverage" on Fox News that we could call irresponsible, but we have to give props where props are due. Way to speak up, Megyn! Now if only you could help educate some of your viewers, too. Because it seems that news of Archie comics character Kevin Keller’s upcoming same-sex wedding has brought out the homophobes in droves.
Buzzfeed has collected some of the gems of viewer comments left on the story posted on Fox News’ website, and it never ceases to amaze us what some people are willing to say while hiding behind the Internet.
"Proudvietvet58: ... Sickening isn’t it. I have nothing against gays or lesbians. However, I do have a problem with this kind of shiiit being pushed on our Children and Grandchildren. Just as I would have a problem with my grandchildren being show xxx por no movies in Elementary school. It is morally WRONG.”
“cretanion: Won’t last long. He will get HIV within the week and so will the cartoonist. Just like this behavior eventually all things turn to craap.”
“whiteshark777: Wow! I used to read this as a kid and always wanted my children to read it but that’ll NEVER happen now.”
And, of course, a little political foreshadowing:
“patriotalpha: They take God away from us then force their Gay abomination on us and whine when we get pissed off at them. There will be pay back in 2012!”
