Here's the thing some of you might be missing, that will also help Dan destroy this bigot.

He doesn't need to be "up on the Bible". That would be like arguing over how many buttons Santa has on his coat.

The Bible condemns homosexuality. Period. It ALSO condemns, however, mixed clothing, eating shellfish, working on the Sabbath, divorce, not leaving your fields fallow every seventh year, making graven images, women getting their hair cut, men growing their hair long, tattoos, etc.

I think part of Dan's focus in this debate should also be: so what? The Bible condemns X, Y and Z... and your point is? Why should 1) people who disagree with the fundamentalists but are still believers, have to follow what the fundamentalists say, and 2) people who aren't believers have to follow what the fundamentalists say.

I'm a Taoist. Not a Christian. Why should I care at all what the Bible says?

unfortunately, whatever logic Dan uses will be lost on Brian. Trying to argue with these people is pointless because no matter how much logic and reason we use, the religious zealots are never going to change their minds. They spend so much time railing on about the "evils" of homosexuality that they're just going to dig in their heels, cross their arms, and stop listening.

One thing I've noticed in the 15 years I've been involved in these 'discussions' (mostly on-line in various forums, though occasionally in person)is that those on the "anti" side don't usually make up their own minds. Rather their pastor or other 'respected' official says it and they simply take his/her word as the only possible 'truth'. For instance, I once sent someone by email a very well researched and very well written document explaining why the author didn't believe there was anything inherently 'evil' or wrong with homosexuality. The person I sent it to refused to read it for herself and instead offered to let her pastor read it and would then convey to me that pastor's reaction. I said, "Don't bother. If I was interested in your pastor's opinion, I'd have asked you for his email address and sent it to him. I sent it to you because I wanted YOUR opinion."

My understanding of the Leviticus passage is that there was not the concept of homosexuality in those days. Rather, it condemns a heterosexual male raping another heterosexual male. (As was frequently done to make the one who was raped into less of a man.)

Just don't use any naughty words, Dan, or they'll call you a bully again. Wouldn't that be just awful. (Of course when Christians are bullying gay kids, that's just fucking okey dokey!)

Dan Savage should tell Brian Brown(shit) to PROVE that a god sent an angel to fuck a virgin. He should demand that Brown(shit) prove that this virgin birthed the bastard son of that god. Then Dan should force Brown(shit) to prove that this mythical bastard son of a mythical god died for the sins of the hundreds of millions of bastard son of a god believers who have enslaved & murder hundreds of millions of people in the name of that bastard son of a god for 2012 years. Dan should FORCE Brownshit to prove that this mythical bastard son of a god gives a fuck about what Brownshit spews.
