A gay steward for a leading Russian airline was allegedly subjected to a bizarre anti-gay punishment after he attempted to create an LGBT support network. Details follow.
Maxim Kupreev, a flight attendant for Aeroflot, was reportedly forced to marry a woman to avoid being fired from his job for being gay. The demand came after Kepreev laid groundwork for a gay affirming group for fellow LGBT Aeroflot employees.
A protest is scheduled on February 9, with one of the organizers and leading Russian activist Nikolia Alekseev saying, "We have already worked out a number of slogans which underline a double meaning of the word “marriage” in Russian which we are going to communicate with the public in the context of Aeroflot’s activities.”
Another group is calling for the removal of Aeroflot from its membership in the Sky Team alliance program (which also includes Delta & Air France), based on these allegations.
