The purchase of gay.xxx for $500,000 by Corbin Fisher has made history. Find out why, after the jump!
Though the .xxx extension is not yet open for public registration, the amount gay porn empire Corbin Fisher forked over to hold the gay.xxx URL marks the most ever paid for a website before its domain is launched publicly.
The clever .xxx domain is owned by ICM Registry (hmmm, looking into their eTrade stock options now), which is operating in a "sunrise" period that allows porn sites to snap-up the extensions early.

Anyone can now create their own set of Domains and TLDs in any language and at no cost, simply by registering new Dashcom (instead of Dotcom) Domains. Now available at sites like Dashworlds.com, new Dashcoms are highly memorable and relevant web addresses such as "gay-com" or "gay-life" or even "gay-xxx".
Totally outside ICANN's control and with users in over 90 countries worldwide, resolution is via an APP; although new ISP links are coming online to make that unnecessary.
It’s only a matter of time before other new options surface, and none of them will have anything to with ICANN.
