GLAAD, in partnership with the Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition, announced on Thursday the launch of a new project aimed at educating gay and lesbians (and, of course, the straight community as well) about the lives of our trans brothers and sisters.

An interesting and timely concept, right?

A video preview of the new national campaign "I Am: Trans People Speak") has hit the web this afternoon starring Laverne Cox, Isis King, Noah Lewis and Kit Yan. Watch and learn more about "I AM: Trans People Speak," after the jump!

From a press release:

The campaign aims to educate gay and lesbian people about the lives of trans Americans—as well as reach trans youth with stories of empowerment.

"By providing a place for transgender people, family members and our allies to share their stories, we hope to empower our community and the general public to advocate for transgender equality and move the culture towards acceptance of transgender youth and adults, said Gunner Scott, executive director of MTPC. "With GLAAD's leadership on this project, we will be educating the public and be a resource to the mainstream media about the reality of transgender peoples' lives and the unique challenges they face due to pervasive bias, stereotypes and misunderstanding."

GLAAD is also calling for submissions from members of the public who would like to share their own stories as part of the project. For more information, head to GLAAD's website
