Next to serving drinks or booty in the local gay watering hole, acting seems to be the last occupation you would find homophobia running its course. That doesn’t stop a high percentage of actors who say they are not out to their agents for fear that their career will pay the price. So why are these actors playing the role of hetero the moment the power players walk by?
Reuters reported that the results from a survey done by the British trade union Equity resulted in a mere 57 percent of gay actors who say they are out to their Hollywood gatekeepers, AKA their agents.
Why, when a proud and ridiculously funny lesbian can take home an Emmy and a gay daddy can play Magneto, do these closet doors stay shut? Can an out actor really become A-List?
Rupert Everett has always been outspoken that he's paid a pricey tag for being openly gay, and in a 2010 interview threw in that Hollywood is, in fact, "very, very conservative." Rumor is he wanted to be the next James Bond. Where’s that audition for Bond Boy?
Thank God we still have our true out gAy-Listers making their multi-million dollar pictures like Tom…er….okay maybe not. Well, John’s at least….oh wait, not him either? Geez.
At least Jodie’s still our superstar and beacon in these murky waters of agency sharks. Leave it to a lesbian to not put up with any Hollywood shit.
