News seeped out over the weekend that in light of President Obama's DOMA decision, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration services has started holding off on deporting foreigners involved in bi-national same-sex marriages with American citizens. Now we have confirmation that this is the case, after the jump.
"USCIS has issued guidance to the field asking that related cases be held in abeyance while awaiting final guidance related to distinct legal issues," said Christopher Bentley, spokesman for the department. "USCIS has not implemented any change in policy and intends to follow the President's directive to continue enforcing the law."
What does it all mean?
As speculated since the weekend, the USCIS has now confirmed that it will not deny Green Card applications to binational same-sex couples as long as the validity of DOMA is being questioned. Progress!
