While we aren't converting your children or having orgies, we are committing hate crimes on ourselves, according to a senior police officer and his bogus research. Get riled after the jump.
One of Jamaica's most senior police officers has said that "80-90%" of organised crime on that island is conducted by gay men.
LGBT Asylum News reports that on Monday at a press conference, the Senior Superintendent of Police Fitz Bailey, the Head of the Organized Crime Investigation Division, made the claim that gay men commit 80-90 percent of organized crime in the country. After he received criticism, Bailey has defended the claim, saying it was based on "research."
This is not only slanderous but extremely dangerous. The largest Jamaican LGBT organization J-FLAG called the comments "an irresponsible and incendiary pronouncement."
And props to The Gleaner, Jamaica's leading newspaper who said it best, "We believe that Mr. Bailey is at his most perspicacious when he keeps his mouth shut." What an effective sentence.
