Jitters-Bliss-300x280

Guess it wasn't exactly a blissful union when Jitters & Bliss decided to exploit the National Organization for Marriage's "Dump Starbucks" campaign by offering their customers a "Preferred Homophobic" discount of sorts. Details follow.

Hoping to take advantage of the possible business by the tens of bigots who followed NOM's instructions and stopped patronizing Starbucks for their coffee time drinks, Jitters & Bliss offered customers a discount if they used the word "marriage" and pledged to donate money to the anti-gay organization in exchange.

But that marriage didn't last long.

After receiving hordes of messages and emails in opposition to its partnership, Jitters & Bliss has decided to dump NOM! The self-professed "Christian" company took down its Facebook page for a few days to let things simmer before resuming publicly today and stating that it is no longer offering the promotion:

USER: is the hate group NOM still associated with this company?

J&B: No!

USER: So it’s not true that if I enter the promotional code “marriage,” you’ll give money to them? Like they say right here? http://www.nomblog.com/24761/

J&B: That is correct! Our customers will receive the discount until the end of July, but no money goes to NOM after July 9th. Our true intention is to sell great coffee. Period! Jitters & Bliss remains neutral, respectiving everyone. However, we are a Christian based company who will adhere to Christian business principles. We love everyone. [...]

USER: is there a pro equality code I can use to order coffee from you?

J&B: we are no longer connected to NOM. I do not care for SBucks for many reasons. I took an opportunity to get some of their business. Being inclusive, and loving everyone, yes, I would make another code. Will you use it?

J&B's status update goes on with posts from FB followers who still frown upon the coffeemaker's initial decision to partner with NOM and demand to know whether or not the business supports marriage equality.
