Jenelle Hutcherson wants to make history on the pageant circuit. And she will not only be the first openly lesbian contest on the stage in Long Beach, CA this weekend, she'll be the first to where a tuxedo, she thinks. More after the jump.
The Bakersfield native moved to Long Beach just three years ago, but is ready to make some waves that don't happen at the beach. She's got her eye on the prize, and that prize is: LGBT visibilty and equality for all. While talking with a client of hers at the hair salon where she works, Jenelle decided to compete in the Miss Long Beach Pageant, that this client directs.
She told GLAAD: “I am running for Miss Long Beach and Miss California USA. I will be the first to wear a tux on stage. Also, this will be the first time someone who is openly lesbian this will represented in this pageant. I hope to bring a message of equality. As an artist in the beauty industry, I can appreciate every texture and color on my pallet. I believe true beauty is something we see every day and comes from within, and I will represent a variety of beauty on stage.”
Jenelle also needs to raise $1,800 to cover registration for the Miss California USA in just two weeks. Want to help out sister out? Visit her PayPal donation box, or visit her Facebook page.
