long ride home project

Here at Instinct we've got a soft spot for cyclists (our boys that participated in AIDS/LifeCycle are still feeling it in their quads!).

That's partially why we were so excited to hear about the military vets participating in "The Long Ride Home Project," which started on July 15 in Ocean Shores, WA and is taking the veterans through 12 states, pedaling more than 4,200 miles to their final destination: Washington, D.C.

One of the vets is 27-year-old Marie B. Tracy, a.k.a. Marty. Marty is an openly lesbian veteran who served in the Air Force for 6 years.  More after the jump!

Marty's just returned from Afghanistan where she worked as a Logistics Advisor. She's riding to highlight the diversity of people serving in the U.S. military, especially the LGBT community, and to shine a light on the issues LGBT military members face while serving their country and as veterans.

See what Marty has to say about her decision to join "The Long Ride Home Project."

Captain Marty

Marty's joined by four other military vets, all of whom are riding to bring awaress to their own causes.

Oh and two of the vets are hand-cyclists, based on their paralysis, so don't come at us with your complaints about spin class!

Head here for to get more info on The Long Ride Home Project, track the riders' progress, and donate!
