Michigan's adoption ban for unmarried couples is being challenged by lesbian partners April DeBoer and Jayne Rowse who filed the paperwork in Detroit today.

The couple are raising three children together but under state law, they can't adopt them together—as a couple—an option available only to heterosexual married couples.

Obviously they want what is only fair for their family, but state laws in Michigan are discrimanatory against LGBT families. The plaintiffs just want to protect their kids and their family, saying that the law "serves no legitimate government interest."

The lawsuit names the state's governor and its attorney general as defendents.

Head over to The Chicago Tribune for all the details.
