There were murmurings that this might happen, but we have to admit we’re surprised that this one’s actually official.

Lindsay Lohan has signed on the dotted line and is set to star as THE Elizabeth Taylor in the Lifetime Original Movie, Liz & Dick.

More after the jump.

While Lindsay’s had a ton of personal drama, we’ve always thought she was a talent, so this could be just the ticket to reminding others.

See we do say nice things!

But…we do have our concerns.

This is Elizabeth Taylor after all. Beyond being an unmatched beauty, she requires a certain depth. A certain charisma. An elusive X-factor that doesn’t come along often.

Can Lindsay bring that? Maybe. And we’re rooting for her!

What Lindsay does have working in her favor is that Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton had the most notorious and publicized love affair of their day.

They were constantly swarmed by paparazzi, and their relationship played out entirely in front of the global press.  From meeting on the set of Cleopatra, to leaving their respective spouses and marrying then divorcing—and then marrying and divorcing again, their relationship ups and downs were never without public scrutiny.

If any Hollywood actress can identify with that phenomenon, it’s La Lohan.

The opportunity isn’t lost on Lindsay. On accepting the part she says, “I have always admired and had enormous respect for Elizabeth Taylor. She was not only an incredible actress but an amazing woman as well. I am very honored to have been asked to play this role.”

We like it Lindsay. Keep it humble.

What do you think, Instincters? Can Lindsay pull this off? Are you willing to give her a chance?

She's quite beautiful and I'm sure she'll do just fine. Personally I can't think of anyone else in Hollywood who could get away with playing the most beautiful woman in the world. She has fine features like Elizabeth and her own extraordinary beauty. Good for her.
