The infamous bid to mandate condom usage on porn sets will officially head to Los Angeles voters this November after proponents submitted nearly twice the required amount of signatures to make referendum. Details follow.
The AIDS Healthcare Foundation sent out a press release this morning on what will be called the "County of Los Angeles Safer Sex In The Adult Film Industry Act":
“We are extremely pleased to learn that our County of Los Angeles ballot measure to require adult film producers to obtain public health permits has successfully qualified for the November ballot, particularly as that is also the presidential election and voter turnout is expected to be very high,” said Michael Weinstein, president of AIDS Healthcare Foundation and one of the five named proponents of the ballot initiative. “This ordinance, modeled after the County’s similar health permitting process for tattoo and massage parlors and bathhouses, should go a long way to improve safety on the sets for adult film performers. We are grateful that officials from the City of Los Angeles already acted earlier this year to adopt a similar citywide measure, and now we look forward to taking this measure directly to voters throughout the County of Los Angeles in November.”
