It looks like things could get interesting when North Carolina voters head to the polls in May.

A new Elon University Poll taken between Feb. 28 and March 1, shows some evolution in the views of North Carolina voters and it could have a direct impact on the success or failure of the proposed state constitutional amendment that would define marriage as “between one man and one woman.”

More after the jump.

The Poll reveals that 54 percent of respondents said they would oppose an amendment to the North Carolina constitution that would ban same-sex marriage. 38 percent support it.

36 percent of respondents said they support full marriage rights for same-sex couples, up from 33 percent who showed support in Nov. 2011, and a rise from 28 percent in Feb. 2011.

Momentum’s on our side, guys. Times, they are a-changin.’

The proponents of the bill are citing another poll that shows that support for the bill is rising as well. I dont want anyone to be discourage, but nobody in NC should take this for granted until it is over!! Keep knocking on doors, talking to your straight friends, supporting the organizations fighting this amendment... and please... GO VOTE!!! Take your friends to go vote, call the allies you know to go vote!!

I agree. We were winning in CA in 2008 and ME in 2009. Sometimes people lie in polls to avoid conflict. But I've got my fingers crossed up here in NY, where our legislators actually did the right thing.
