With the help of her attorney and family, the brutally beaten Mallory Owens has released a detailed official statement detailing the Thanksgiving attack at the hands of her girlfriend's brother that landed her in the hospital. Read it after the jump.

Official Statement from Mallory Owens and Family

I am represented by attorney Christine Hernandez. I am supported by my family, friends, several organizations including Equality Alabama and GLAAD as well as numerous other indviduals who have offered a multitude of support to myself and my family including all of those that have donated to help me with my medical expenses. For all of you that have supported me, I am very grateful.

The last week has been the most traumatic several days I have ever experienced, physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Not just for me, but for my family as well. Fortunately, we are a strong family, and we are sticking together as a family.  On Thanksgiving Day, I visited the Hawkins’ home, the family home of my girlfriend Ally Hawkins. As I was leaving, I was brutally attacked by Travis Hawkins Jr., Ally’s brother. I believe that he intended to kill me. I was defenseless against him. This was not the first time Travis Hawkins Jr. attacked me and sent me to the hospital.

Travis Hawkins Jr. has been charged with Assault Second Degree by the District Attorney’s office. Although, I appreciate all the efforts of the hospital and EMS staff, police, all the investigators, and District Attorney Ashley Rich, neither I nor my family agree that Assault Second Degree is the right charge. We are very hopeful and optimistic that as Ms. Rich, her offce and the police continue to investigate this crime, that the charges will be upgraded to attempted Murder. I was unconscious when the beating ended. I do not know what stopped him. I do know he has threatened to kill me before, he has attacked me with a metal pipe before, and on Thanksgiving Day he launched an unprovoked attack on me that left me unconscious, hospitalized, suffering horrific head trauma, severe injuries and in need of surgery and additional treatment. Since the attack, Travis Hawkins Jr. has been seen following my family and appearing at locations where they have gathered. He has threatened to finish me off. I believe as long as he is free on bond that my life continues to be in danger. Even beyond the physical harm, I am quite traumatized. I am afraid and I feel that I have been victimized repeatedly by the Hawkins family.

The interview at the Hawkins home was not requested by me, nor was I aware that the media would be at the Hawkins home. I was brought back to the home by Ally Hawkins. I wanted to be in my own apartment. Mr. Hawkins Sr. insisted we give the interview and statements were made. I believe Mr. Hawkins Sr. is very manipulative, I believe he organized the family and orchestrated the media represenation to portray himself in a better light. I do not feel safe there. I was very uneasy and nervous while I was there. I was still very disoriented, weak, and intimidated. Mr. Hawkins Sr. has also threatened me with harm based on my relationship with his daughter.   Travis Hawkins Sr. threatened me with a metal pipe while I was waiting in the car on a prior occassion.  Travis Hawkins Jr. used a metal pipe to assault me on a prior occassion.  He and his son pose a very real threat. I will not go back there.

It will be a very long time before I feel safe again. This sort of attack whether it is proven to be a hate crime or a crime derived from one man’s hate of another human being should not happen to anyone in this country. No one should have to endure an attack the way that I did. Neither should a mother have to see her daughter in the state that my mom had to see me.

During this investigation, many statements were made to the media, some were premature and misguided. All of us involved have been at the center of a huge media storm. At this time, we want to let the investigation continue and we need to heal. Ally Hawkins has continued to release statements and make arbitrary facebook posts and she has even offered a motive for her brother’s actions. Please know that Ally Hawkins is NOT SPEAKING for me, she is NOT representing me in the media in any way. Her statements and public posts on facebook or any other form of social media are NOT representative of my opinions, beliefs or words.

I am fortunate that my family’s love for me is unconditional. I fell in love with a girl. My family loves, accepts and supports me. They have shown nothing but love and acceptance throughout my attack, my time in the hospital, and the investigation of this brutal attack, they have been there for me, loving me and supporting me. I want to thank and publicly show my appreciation for my mom, my brother and sister, my Uncle Ricky, Linda, my grandma. Besides the countless individuals who have offered their support financially and in words of kindness, I also want to thank organizations like Equality Alabama and GLAAD for offering their direct support to me and my family, as well as working to create a culture in Alabama where people aren’t attacked for being who they are and loving who they love. Thank you to all those who have prayed, supported and advocated for myself and my family. For those of you who pray, we ask you to continue to pray for us as we heal.

GLAAD has set up a fund to help pay for Mallory's extensive hospital bills. Head here to help out

Holy crap. That just made me cry. I hope she separates herself from ally and the entire family and I hope that Travis spends a long long time in jail. Unfortunately I also hope that she moves far away because I don't think she will be safe while still living anywhere near there.

Dear Mallory ,
You are in my prayers, I have a sister that is mentally disabled and I know how some people can be because someone is different, I lived at home with my sweet sister (she is now 66 yrs old)until she was put in a mentally disabled home 3 hours from our family she was 15 yrs old.Not because she was hard to handle because our church felt it was best to get her out of the comminutiy because she was different,
she was there 19 yrs, they then started closing all the state run instutions so she was brought back to live in our town in a group home with other mentally challenged kids and now our parents are gone I am all she has me and my children(5) who love her dearly. So you keep up the fight it is ok to live your life the best way that makes you happy ,you have a great family behind you. God Bless you
Yours Truely,

Her girlfriend released a public statement about other details leading up to this event. It's hard to decipher in who is telling the truth of why this happened. In the end, it's a horrible horrible thing to have happened and deserves to have attempt of murder charge. This was completely brutal. I am praying for your well wishes and good thoughts.

I'm not familiar with the all of the laws, but shouldn't this be considered a hate crime? My prayers are with Mallory and her family.

Whether you call this a hate crime, attempted murder, or both (anything less would be a sad and painful failure of the Mobile, AL justice system). At a time when most of us where spending a day being thankful for everything wonderful in our lives, this girl was fighting for her life. I do not know how she has survived, but by the grace of everything powerful she did. I can't make comments about something I don't know about...but the horrid level at which she was beaten---something or someone failed this woman on a basic human plane. If you can help her and her family, do so. Travis Hawkins, Jr not only needs to be put in prison for what he did, but HE obviously needs some serious psychiatric help. HIS family needs some type of help, although I cannot at this moment understand it.

To: Not Buying It. Your an Idiot and must be a Hawkins Family Member since you are afraid to put your name on a comment like that. I know her mom as a Sister and I knew Mallory when she was just a kid. And no matter the choices Mallory has made. No man or half man should put his filthy hands on her. You are an ignorant person to make such a statement. Can you read or did someone type that up for you? Because if you could read the reports you would have seen that she had severe trama. I knew a lady that died from hittind her head when she fell against a peice of furniture. She died in her sleep. What makes you an expert on the threshold of death due to a beatdown like Mallory suffered by the hands of worthless Travis Hawkins Jr? These people will be paying for all they have done to this family. Now all that needs to happen is that the DA does her job and up the charges to attempted murder before the next news report is worse.

I'm finally glad to hear from you, Mallory. I know people who are helping you in many ways and I hope that monster gets put away for a very long time. Keep your head up and know you have many supporters here in Pensacola and all over the world. No one deserves the treatment and manipulation you have endured. Continuing prayers for you and your family.

I don't care what his reasons were or if he intended to kill her or not! He beat her unconscious!! There's no excuse for a man to lay his hands on a woman!!! And to beat her the way he did he could have very well killed her!! There is no excuses for this it was wrong!!! And he needs to be punished for it!

And as far as a man "putting their filthy hands on her". That is allegedly the same girl (s) that had men sticking their filthy dick in them for money. Real angels, those two.

Did he handle it correctly? Oh hell no. And he's probably going to jail for it. I sure don't think he did the right thing, but I think a lot of people are winking too.I think a lot of people look at this as Travis kicking his sister's pimp's ass to save her. Maybe that's what it is.

I've read mallory post and the girlfriend and I thought first from all the media before there statements that there was a lot more to the story and almost fell for the story that mallory released saying it wasn't a hate crime but after I read of the dads charge being dropped for shooting his son and then mallory supposedly saying it wasn't a hate crime I have come to realize that like mallory said it was a set up all the way around from the attack to the statement released after she was released from the hospital and he was so quick to put a picture of everyone at his home when she got out of the hospital. I do not k.ow anyone involved but I do know that some people can manipulate you into to doing whatever especially if they are good at it. Look of the history of the family and now this. All things get justice wether its here or in heaven so one way or the other they all have to answer for what they did. She ddnt deserve to have what happened to her no matter how hard that family tries to justify it. It should be attempted murder because we already know the dad dsnt mind shooting someone and its sad that she has to constantly looking over her shoulder until they can put Travis back behind bars. I've dealt with a love one who had a head injury and its pretty much of what we pieced together to tell them what happened that day. So the hawkins thought that they could feed her a story and shed run with it guess they ddnt realize how strong her family is. So on that I will say dnt judge until you've heard the victim side of The story.
