Two of our 2009 Leading Men, Cleve Jones and Fred Karger, took to the streets of San Diego this weekend as a part of the planned protest at the city’s Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel. As we told you last week, the protest was planned to mark the anniversary of hotel owner Doug Manchester’s major donation ($125,000 to be exact) to the Yes on 8 campaign in California, as well as the American Historical Convention’s continued support of the property by holding its annual conference there over the weekend.
Fred tells us that about 300 people turned out for the protest, where both he and Cleve spoke to the crowd.
“Yes, we have an agenda. Labor has an agenda here today. It’s not a hidden agenda. It’s not a secret agenda. The agenda is loud and clear. The agenda of this union is equality,” Cleve told the crowd. “The agenda of this union is fair wages, safe working conditions, access to health care and equality for all workers, including lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgender people.”
Included are some additional photos from Fred.
