On Friday we brought you news of a grief-stricken mother petitioning Michele Bachmann to do something about the LGBT teen suicide epidemic that seems to find its epicenter in the GOP presidential candidate's Minnesota district. Now, thanks to an intrepid reporter, we have something resembling Bachmann breaking her well-documented silence on the issue. So, what does Bachmann have to say about anti-gay bullying that is leaving kids in her district dead?
"It's not a federal issue," Bachmann said when pressed about the issue late Friday.
The day before and in the wake of heightened interest surrounding Bachmann's district's "neutral policy" on anti-gay bullying, the politician's office released a statement reading, "Bachmann will respond after she reviews the request and petition."
The issue, Bachmann, should you choose to accept it, is your venomous anti-gay politics, a platform of hate that has contaminated the district that is under your care. Ultimately, the issue transcends our systems of government and falls under the jurisdiction of compassion and humanity, two areas you seem to be about as familiar with as HPV vaccines.
