It was only a few days ago when Mitt Romney was leaving us as confused as Courtney Stodden by telling the Nashua Telegraph that he supports equality and rights for the LGBT community—unless those rights happen to be equal access to marriage. Now, he's at least making good on half that promise, as evident in new flyers mailed out from the Romney campaign across Iowa.

In an interview with the Nashua Telegraph late last week, Romney said, "I don’t believe in discriminating in employment or opportunity for gay individuals.  So I favor gay rights, I do not favor same-sex marriage. That has been my position all along."

So you favor gay rights, except for when you don't favor gay rights? Can't have both, Mittens!

On Monday Mitt proved just how much he favors and supports gay rights by sending out a mailer in Iowa that specifically pledges to fight for opposite-only marriage.

Touting his "pro-marriage" beliefs, the new flyer reminds Iowans that Romney will fight against gay rights by supporting "a federal amendment to define marriage as between one man and one woman."

Romney's position makes perfect sense to the constituency to whom he is appealing. After asking glbt folks to move to the back of the bus he is throwing us under it. Still, he's way better on this matter than most of the rest of the Republican candidates (think Bachman, Santorum, Perry to send a chill up your spine). Also remember, Obama does not support the recognition of same-sex marriage and was much more of a follower than a leader in the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell. There are no great choices, only less horrible ones.

Romney has displayed support for gay people in the past, such as when his campaign distributed an equal rights flyer at Boston's Pride festival in 2002. Once he got to be governor and saw that same-gender couples were being allowed to marry in MA, he opposed that right very actively. He is a HUGE HYPOCRITE: http://www.democraticundergrou...32x3530416
