gipson

Mississippi state Rep. Andy Gipson has forgotten about a little thing Americans have called "separation of church and state" by basically giving his constituents (a.k.a. his bosses) the middle finger. Instead of caring what his diverse constiuency thinks, Gipson announced via Facebook that the only "opinion" he will obey is God's. (Gipson's interpretation of the Christian God, in case you didn't get where we were going with this.)

It gets way better, errr, worse from there, so follow the jump and catch a ride on today's crazy train!

In response to President Obama (r)evolving on marriage equality to finally tell the American people that he believes in civil rights, Gipson decided to vent extremist Biblical homophobia on Facebook.

He wrote:

"Been a lot of press on Obama’s opinion on “homosexual marriage.” The only opinion that counts is God’s: see Romans 1:26-28 and Leviticus 20:13. Anyway you slice it, it is sin. Not to mention horrific social policy."

Surely we all recall that Leviticus 20:13 calls for the death of homosexuals.

How patriotic!

After comments flooded in, Gipson continued his lunatic rant by posting his own comment to his update.

"Sorry I’ve been busy and not had a chance to reply. David, in addition to the basic principal that it is morally wrong, here are three social reasons it’s horrific social policy: 1) Unnatural behavior which results in disease, not the least of which is its high association with the development and spread of HIV/AIDS; 2) Confusing behavior which is harmful to children who have a deep need to understand the proper role of men and women in society and the important differences between men and women, and fathers and mothers; and 3) Undermines the longstanding definition of marriage as between one man and one woman, a definition which has been key to all aspects of social order and prosperity. Anytime that definition is weakened our culture is also weakened. And yes, that is also true for other conduct which weakens marriage’s importance in society."

The only behavior harmful to children and society is yours, Gipson. All the other anti-gay "issues" you've raised have been time and time again dismantled and ruled as dangerous by science.

UnityMS has a message for constituents in Rankin, Smith or Simpson Counties who take issue with Gipson's blatant bigotry:

If you live in Rankin, Smith, or Simpson country, we urge you to contact Representative Gipson and let him know he represents you. If you choose to contact Gipson, please be respectful. His contact information is below.

I always feel the need to tell media types such as Instinct that when you point out that the person who is offending you such as this idiot and that the person is a Christian, I need to say that I am a Christian, gay male democrat who believes Christ is the way, the truth and the life...meaning we are all created in the image of God thereby we inherit dignity and blessing. We are all fundamentally good and the only message of Chrisitanity is love for all men and women. Whew...girl I am tired. PREACH!

Mississippi is (literally) full of uneducated people. Is it any surprise they elected an equally ignorant representative?

PH, WTF are you talking about? You're no better a person that this freak of nature because you generalize. I happen to live in Biloxi, Mississippi, and I do not associate with people who are uneducated. Just because the MAJORITY of Mississippians vote for these right-winged bigots doesn't mean we all do.

I'm talking about the fact that MS is the dumbest state in the country. Idiots like Gipson are it's produce. I wouldn't defend it if I were you, you should probably head for greener territory. Just sayin.

I mean, do I seriously need to explain how, as your Representative, Andy Gipson represents your state?

I, too, am a gay Christian. I feel that Gipson is doing a disservice to Christianity. Jesus taught everyone to love one another and NOT to judge. What Gipson is doing is not only wrong, but it is dangerous.

Oh, that's right, PH. DOMA is in effect in all 49 states except the one you live in, right?

In what state do you live? How quickly you forget that one of the "greener territory" states in America (California) voted for Prop 8. Apparently, how "dumb" a state is accounts for nothing when it comes to bigotry.
