Despite receiving more $60,000 in taxpayer money this year, Albuquerque's Hope Christian School has used its view of the Bible to discriminate against a 3-year old because his parents are gay. How Christianly!

Reports New Mexico's 7 Action News:

Action 7 News got a copy of the letter that Hope Christian School sent to the family. It says in part: “Same gender couples are inconsistent with scriptural lifestyle and biblical teachings,” and "Home life doesn't reflect the school's belief of what a biblical family lifestyle is.”

The letter also says since the school is private, it is free from "excessive government interference in matters of religion."

Though it is a private school, due to federal regulations Hope Christian will of course accept more than $60,000 in taxpayer funds before the fall start of school.

“We don't think agencies that discriminate or use religion to discriminate should be receiving our federal or government funds,” said the ACLU's Peter Simonson.

Doesn't "scriptural lifestyle and biblical teachings" include love, compassion, and tolerance? Evidently, not in this school.

They have the right to reject the student -- but that doesn't make it RIGHT!

Take your business elsewhere and encourage others to do the same.

Well, yeah, they have a right to reject a student...but like Gonzo said, that doesn't make it right. They should lose their tax payer paid funds, though!!! And like Dick Z., I think that love, compassion, tolerance and justice (don't forget that one) are scriptural and biblical, and are OBVIOUSLY not taught in that school.

Scriptural lifestyle meant one man + multiple wives/concubines/slaves & as with Lot, the one good man in Sodom, offering his virgin daughters to the crowd rather than violate hospitality--and having incestuous sex with them while drunk (their idea). Same-sex relations for men were forbidden to Jews because Canaanites worshiped Baal with male temple prostitutes as part of ritual.

This is a two-way street. I am both gay and a Christian. Yes, we gays as taxpayers find it inappropriate that our tax dollars are given to a school, who in turn rejects (discriminates) against this family, and denies their child entrance. I disagree with their stance and think that the child certainly hasn't done anything wrong and as such, their actions are inappropriate.

But, imagine from the other side of this on a similar issue. There are women's clinics (who do excellent work, I'm not condemning them) who as one component of their services perform abortions. Many of these clinics receive our tax dollars. But, there are clearly many people (perhaps not the majority though) who believe this to be wrong. They object to having their tax dollars spent to fund abortions.

In both cases, the tax dollars cover many things, not just the offensive issue. It's a slippery slope to say that tax dollars shouldn't go to religious institutions if they don't believe one way and equally slippery to deny funds to a women's clinic that does good, positive work over and above abortions.

I don't have an answer, but things aren't so cut and dried.

This Christian school believes the bible to be true. They are a private Christian school and teach a message that the parents don't agree with. The parents in this case had no real intention on sending their child to the school, they just want to push thierry own agenda by using the six year old as their weapon. Anyone who knows anything about this school, or does an ounce of research would know they teach the biblical message of family and marrige. Why is it ok for people to speak out against Christian values, but it's not ok for a Christian school to stand by their long- standing policies and beliefs? It's called freedom of religion, not freedom from religion.

When I was a Christian, their values did not include hypocrisy and double standards. Today, evidently, they do.
