...and moves indoors for 2012.
Revelers planning to descend upon Gotham to celebrate the last NYC Pride Pier dance on Pier 54 had their dreams dashed today when Heritage of Pride, organizers of the historic annual event, announced a change of venue.
After an environmental review found the aging Pier structurally unsound, organizers say the 2012 Dance on the Pier will move to enclosed space on Pier 57.
“We believe this will usher in a new era for these events," said Heritage of Pride's Managing Director Chris Frederick. "The space is significantly larger, which will allow for easier access to bars, restrooms, and social spaces. It is our intention to create an entirely new experience for our attendees. Considering these two events represent more than half of our annual fundraising efforts, their continued success and appeal has become the organization’s primary focus for the year.”
Because of the venue change, the Pier Dance will boast later hours and run from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. Is the larger space, longer hours and bigger production enough to get over the fact that a major milestone in NYC's gay history is now officially over?
