The outrageously bigoted letter Maryland Rep. Emmet Burns sent the Baltimore Ravens last week to demand sanctions against Brendon Ayanbadejo for supporting the LGBT has been transformed into lots of good for the equality-minded athlete. The latest silver lining to shine his way comes in the form of praise from NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.
What does Goodell have to say about the LGBT controversy?
Politico reports:
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Wednesday defended Baltimore Ravens linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo, whose public support for gay marriage prompted a Maryland state lawmaker to write a letter to the team’s owner asking him to silence his player.
“I think in this day and age, people are going to speak up about what they think is important. They speak as individuals and that’s an important part of democracy,” Goodell said at POLITICO’s Playbook’s Lunch with Mike Allen.
Mr. Burns tried to walk back the rhetoric in his anti-gay letter over the weekend to no avail.
