The National Organization for Marriage is still outraged OUTRAGED! over the scandal it likely helped manufacture in an attempt to dethrone one of the country's top LGBT personalities, which makes the next move in its political strategy a chin-scratcher. In a challenge raised today, NOM's head homophobe Brian Brown has invited Dan Savage to debate the bible. Now while NOM's not known for making the smartest, most-successful political moves, if Dan accepts, Brian is going to get his ass handed to him on a platter (and not in the way Marcus Bachmann enjoys). Details follow.

Continuing its attempt to inflame the far right over the now-obviously staged walkout of Christian students at an otherwise-typical Dan Savage speaking engagement, Brian Brown announced to his handful of followers that he wants to duel with the media darling.

Writes Brian:

Invited to address the issue of bullying before a captive audience of other people's children, Dan Savage chose instead to belittle these high-schoolers' faith, to repeatedly curse at the Bible, and, when a group of rather brave students quietly walked out, to curse directly at them.

He has refused to apologize for any of it, except for directly cursing at the teens who left.

As a father of seven, watching it makes my blood boil.

Let me lay down a public challenge to Dan Savage right here and now: You want to savage the Bible? Christian morality? Traditional marriage? Pope Benedict? I'm here, you name the time and the place and let's see what a big man you are in a debate with someone who can talk back. It's easy to make high-school girls cry by picking on them. Let's pick on someone our own size!

Sure, having one of our guys debate a man known for employing lowdown dirty tricks because he has nothing to lose might cause a slight pang of nerves to rumble in our stomachs, but we're pretty sure Dan Savage has this one in the bag.

Why? The bible's inconvenient and uncomfortable truths are familiar terrain for Savage whereas Brian Brown wouldn't know truth if Jesus himself had highlighted it or authored a Cliff's Note edition.

Do you think Dan will respond and pay Brian's challenge any mind?

Dan shouldn't accept the guy's challenge; that would have given him power. Just say has better thung to do than to debate Brown. Period.

The problem is, there is nothing to debate. It's like having a debate about the Grimm Fairy Tales or Dr. Seuss books. The Bible is predominantly made-up mythology with few documented/verifiable facts.

Yeah and right after that Dan will debate who's stronger, Superman or Mickey Mouse. You can't debate when one participant is going to insist on magical knowledge no one can prove.

But the thing is, Dan is GOOD at this sort of debate, knows the material, and will wipe the FLOOR with Brian Brown. Which is something that needs to happen as often as possible.

I see the good and Bad. Perhaps him (Dan) taking the Offer we are looking at it he shouldn't because Brian will feel powerful, (we know Brian is a scum) that's besides the point. The point that Dan is going is the Point `Why did he founded It Gets Better?` He is the leader. I see what he is doing he is being the leader, a very intelligent man! That speaks out In Bullying, He is speaking out for thousands of kids!! Like AnonyGrl says he knows his stuff!! Someone has to try to put a stop to the NOM-Nuts!!
