The GLBT Center at North Carolina State University was vandalized overnight Monday, with threatening messages sprayed painted on the walls and doors. More info on student and campus reactions after the jump.

An alert was issued via the Center's website late Monday that read, in part:

"The incident has been reported, no one was hurt, and it is being investigated by University officials. We are working on a positive affirming response to this cowardly act of hatred. Please watch for more information."

But students were quickly reacting to the news late Monday as well, some taking to Facebook demanding action. One student, who posted a photo of the vandalism, remarked:

"If you think I'm going to sit by and let bigots deface my school, my center, my home...you are dead wrong. People have gotten expelled for less. If you have any information, please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it "

I can understand why they are upset. What does "We are working on a positive affirming response to this cowardly act of hatred. Please watch for more information" mean? Positive affirming response? I don't think people see this as taking appropriate action and I honestly believe they are right. Why anger the victims here? I am sure there is an appropriate punishment.
