Brandon McCarthy, pitcher for the Oakland A's, has had it with the cheap laughs the "Kiss Cams" at baseball stadiums regularly go for, and has taken to Twitter to demand an end to the homophobia.
"They put two guys on the 'Kiss Cam' tonight. What hilarity!! (by hilarity I mean offensive homophobia). Enough with this stupid trend."
"I know that isn't the intention, but the implication is that two guys kissing is funny. That's offensive to gay males."
"so that's why they should stop doing it. Plus, it's cheap shitty comedy so it sucks on that level as well."
"Just hate how often that 'gimmick' is used when the intentions aren't great."
Given that Brandon has nearly 30,000 followers on Twitter, he did face some resistance with his "Kiss Cam" campaign.
"A lot of people who aren't 'homophobic' still think its disgusting for men to kiss. ," wrote Andrew Smalley, to which Brandon replied: "which is a personal choice and that's fine. However, the laughing at it as it's broadcast to a stadium is different."
Wow, Brandon, thanks! We've always had a thing for pitchers!
