Back in the heyday of the Backstreet Boys and NSync, we were regularly guilty of playing the "Which one(s) is gay?" game.
Of course we had our suspicions about Lance and we kept an (hopeful) eye on Justin and J.C., which makes it almost comforting to know that nothing's changed.
While we can't claim to be quite as well-versed in today's crop of boy bands, though we've definitely had songs by One Direction and The Wanted in our heads, it's come to our attention that the friendship between One Direction members Louis Tomlinson, 21, and Harry Styles, 18, is the source of lots of speculation.
Apparently the boys want to set the record "straight." More after the jump!
"This is a subject that was funny at first but now is actually hard to deal with in a relationship," says Tomlinson, who is currently dating 20-year-old model Eleanor Calder.
"Me and Harry are best friends, people look into our every move—it is actually affecting the way me and Harry are in public," he continues. "We want to joke around, but there seems to be a different rumor every time we do anything. I act the same way with Harry as I do [with] any of the other boys and my childhood friend Stan."
"I think that we have always been ourselves from day one, and we keep ourselves grounded," Tomlinson adds. "We have a big team working with us, and we make all the final decisions on everything, be it styling, song and lyric choices, tour creative. We like to be involved in everything. That way, everything we do is 'us' and real."
It actually makes us said that these two cuties can't horse around and enjoy their heterosexual bromance in any and every way (and position) that they see fit.
Let's take the heat off of them! Let's let them be THEM in all of their salacious inappropriate glory.
Boys, we are officially leaving you alone to be straight and extra friendly.

these poor boys can't even act like themselves in public because they are afraid that people are going to spread rude rumors! It's quite sad actually! Would you like it if you had people talking about you if you and and a friend even whispered together?!?!?!?! They already have so much pressure that is put on them! Being famous is all fun and games! They work REALLY hard!!!! Then to have to deal with people call you gay, it would be a nightmare! They have to totally change their personalities in public because a bunch of people can't keep their opinions to themselves! It's rubbish!!!
