Ryan Murphy, creator of The New Normal, has responded to the One Million Moms boycott.
See what he has to say after the jump!
"I have obviously been through this before. I wasn't surprised," Murphy told TV critics at a gathering in Beverly Hills about the comments by One Million Moms.
"I think everyone has a right to protest, but I am always surprised when people take a position before they have seen the show. I think they would love it because they (One Million Moms) are in it. I think the show is about tolerance and a discussion of tolerance...I think if they watched it, they would like it," he said.
We're not sure we'd go that far, but NBC entertainment president Jennifer Salke does call the comedy a "love letter to families," something the One Million Moms should be all about, right??
Salke explains that the show's title isn't intended to portray gay adoption as "a more "normal' family than everybody else. It's just meant to...bring a family show to the public that captures the zeitgeist, and what's going on in the country right now and being more inclusive."
As for the One Million Moms being "in" the show, apparently the "caustic and small-minded Nana, played by Ellen Barkin" is a member of One Million Moms, and Murphy says Nana's attitudes will be discussed in the show.
We're sure they'll love that!
Because none of its boycotts against current products, companies or media offerings are going so well, the few-hundred-at-best shrews at One Million Moms is trying something new: boycotting something from the future.
Saying that The New Normal, an upcoming show about a gay couple and their surrogate, is "harmful to our culture" and pushes "sin directly into American living rooms," the hate group has instructed members to send NBC a form email demanding to instead have their beliefs pushed into American living rooms.
Shrieks OMM in the form email it's asking sheeple to sign:
NBC is using public airwaves to continue to subject families to the decay of morals and values, and the sanctity of marriage in attempting to redefine marriage. These things are harmful to our society, and this program is damaging to our culture.
OMM is prepared to contact any and all sponsors of this program if it is aired. It is proven this strategy works! It was not too long ago that NBC announced "The Playboy Club" was canceled after only three episodes because of lack of advertisers!
Millions of Americans strongly believe that marriage should be between one man and one woman. NBC's "The New Normal" is attempting to desensitize America and our children. It is the opposite of how families are designed and created. You cannot recreate the biological wheel.
The letter goes on to say that the signee finds the show "degrading to families" and will work to have advertisers pull from the upcoming fall show.
They haven't even seen the freaking "sinful" show! Or have they? If OMM received a screener of The New Normal before we did then maybe the world truly is coming to an end.
Also, what's more degrading to the modern American family, OMM, bigotry or love?
