Seems the lull of drama over at Here Media/Regent Entertainment is about to pick back up as Capital New York reports that the entire editorial team of Out Magazine will be laid off as of Friday. Details after the jump.
According to Capital, Out editor in chief Aaron Hicklin is set to run Out via his new startup company, Grand Editorial. He reportedly plans to hire back some of the editorial team, though essentially as freelancers—but no full-time salaries or benefits.
Says the report:
Hicklin said he doesn't have any outside investors and that revenue at this point will be project-based, a prospect that has been met with gentle skepticism from some Out staffers: Here Media has had problems paying its freelancers and vendors over the past several years. There is an outstanding fraud lawsuit, meanwhile, against Regent.
Hicklin insists that there will be no change in frequency of production of the magazine. No official word yet from Regent/Here or any of the staff in question. The afermentioned $98 million lawsuit against parent company regent is reportedly set to begin trial in September.
