“This decision, although it happened on the other coast, is enormously helpful to all of our efforts in New York, New Jersey and in every other state in the country. To have the courts of California say that propositions and referendums and laws that deny our families recognition are discriminatory, that they are un-American, it gives all of us another tool in our toolbox as we head back up to Albany and get the state senate to do the right thing.” -- New York City Council Speaker Christine C. Quinn's at last night's post-Prop-8-decision rally in downtown Manhattan.
I'm no videographer, so my apologies for the shaky cam. (And, no: I did not have my first cocktail in celebration of Prop 8's demise until after this New York City rally.)

Christine Quinn shows up at every LBGT rally, pumps her fists in the air and says all the right things, but she has betrayed our community time and again behind the scenes when politically expedient - her silence surrounding the false prostitution arrests of middle aged gay men in her district, her refusal to endorse any LGBT candidates running for City Council in 2009, her rubber stamp on the NYPD law restricting freedom of assembly, the fact that she hasn't introduced or sponsored even one LGBT bill since becoming Speaker, etc. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXoANkQh93I
