There will be a very high-powered superstar making a quick appearance on the eve of the National Equality March: President Obama. Scheduled to be only the second president to speak before the Human Rights Campaign (Clinton did it well in '97), President Obama has agreed to put his oratory skills to great gay use in the spirit of the NEM.

The speech, scheduled for the annual HRC dinner on Saturday night, will likely touch on the subjects many in the GLBT community have accused the president of avoiding, despite campaign pledges -- DADT, DOMA, ENDA. Lots of acronyms to be covered in what surely is a golden score for organizers of the already-historic weekend.

The HRC is expected to make an official announcement this afternoon.

I'm VERY interested to hear what he has to say. Hopefully everyone can listen to him for what it's worth at first before people get on their soapboxes to start ripping him apart.

Is this huge? Or is he just going to massage his speech to appease us?

We are still marching the mall, so I hope he's got something worthwhile to say.

I'm tired of hearing his speeches - I want to see some action.

This is what I'm saying, give him the chance to talk before you get all pessimistic about it! This very well could be a big deal, it could be bullshit. But at least go into it with an open mind. Maybe he's going to try and make it right.
