Reichen Lehmkuhl, perennial reality star and unwitting porn meme, is no longer a fan of the spotlight he worked so tirelessly to attract. If you were in any way critical of the former Instinct cover guy at any point over all these years (especially if you're gay media), then he has unclenched his lips to deliver these harsh words...

From an interview with Gay.net's Brandon Voss:

"As much as I will miss the illustrious and fabulous life of an 'A-list reality star,' being public, being subject to the small but progressive, loud and proud, 'gay-hate and take-down-other gays' judgment machine..."

"...and being the target of gossip from the flawless corps of amazingly accomplished, secure, sassy, role model bloggers--and don't forget the very brave commenters on those blog stories; all winners--of the gay media hate-o-sphere...the dignity department of my soul tells me that it's time for a new direction.

"I will, of course, also miss having the few worst moments of my life put on screen each week, with all 900 recorded hours of my best, positive, happy, benevolent, successful, charitable, fun, and loving moments vanishing, hidden as if they didn't exist, and swiftly deleted from any sort of public view whatsoever.

"I'll also miss having people who have never been on a reality show tell me that they think reality TV depicts people just as they are.

"But believe it or not, I don't actually crave all that glitz and glamour, and I am heading to law school for a few years.

"I have some dreams I need to fulfill, and it's time. I'll leave the former--for now--to someone else who might be hungry for all those experiences that go along with the intoxicating fame of a gaylebrity. I'm always here to give advice to hopefuls."

What do you make of The A-List: New York star's rage against the gay community?

Good for him. The gay world can be really bitchy, and, being a "gaylebrity" brings the bite out of many.

Not to be judgmental, but you spelled judgmental incorrectly.

He is a terrible role model for the gay community. The A-List showed the bitchy, drama side of gay life. That is not always and very rarely the case for many guys.

He is right on with what he said. Those shows edit to show nothing but the negative and the dramatic. All his comments have merit to them. Who here has not experienced a bitchy queen? I do every night before I take the stage. Love Betty Cocker

Not to be a judgemental catty queen like Reichen was referring to, but "judgemental" is an accepted variant spelling of judgmental, BrianZZ. Look it up.

I'm sorry, but I really don't know who this person is. Is he some kind of role model for the gay community? Has he done anything to further address our needs, issues and concerns? Has he been a part of the struggle for gay rights? What has he done? Who is this guy? Why should I care what he thinks or says? I've been an out, open activist since the days of Stonewall and somehow I missed this guy. Where has be been? Who the hell is he?

I for one can and do sympathize with Reichen. A show is a show...even when it is called "reality TV" it is entertainment, not reality. As a public figure Reichen is not perfect but he has done a lot of good. When those who criticize cannot do, they criticize. Get a life people.

Whatever disappointments he has had from making huge amounts of money as "an A-list reality star" (his words, no one else's), he did to himself. There is always room in life for redemption and I applaud this fella's efforts in seeking it; law school is the perfect place for someone with his ego and I hope he stays there long enough to find that out.

Good for Mr. L. Move on and do something else with your life. You've already done more than many of us will, and for that perhaps we might be jealous, or perhaps judgmental but I'm sure there comes a time to live your life less in the public eye and more in the private realm. That can be a good thing as well. But, are you sure you want to get into the field of law? It can be a soul killer if not tightly controlled. I'm sure you are up for the challenge so good luck with it.

Why is everyone so mean to our own? Maybe he made some mistakes by putting himself in the spotlight to begin with. But he keeps getting put in it because SOMEONE is watching.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't know who this is. Is this some actor/model/fitness trainer who wants to be seen as a serious actress? Good luck with law school; if Elle can so it, you can too!smilies/grin.gif
